There are a lot of things I like about Twitter. It is simple to use and understand after your initial learning curve, it is really easy to build a following. You get a lot of news before even major networks cover it. You can find out a lot about the world through what is trending. I don’t mean things like real world experience and that sort of thing, but you can find out things that are happening now.
One of the best things which I use it for, is live blogging. I don’t mean me sitting there blogging as I see something happening. I mean you get live updates from tech experts at major tech launches. New Apple iPad, new Samsung smartphone, new iPhone, new software, that sort of thing.
Its great and is one of the main reasons I use Twitter. It has helped me grow my business, but that has been a by product of generally being active on there and enjoying it.
So if it has been that great for me, what do I dislike? Well there are a few things.
- SPAM! One thing everyone can relate to I think. We have all had spam come through to us on Twitter. Whether a random person tweeting me with a random link, or accounts being hacked and getting spammy messages linked to malware, it is a pain. So as a rule, I don’t click on a link unless I am 100% certain it won’t take me to some malware or virus infested site.
- Their servers are down A LOT! Almost daily. One of the world’s biggest websites, you would have thought they’d have sorted it out and invested a bit more in their own hosting requirements.

- Celebrity trends. It shouldn’t bug me, but I see far too many deluded or obsessive fans out there whose sole mission on a daily basis is to see a celebrity they’re a fan of ‘trending’.
Sorry to break it to you, but number of times a celebrity trends because of how often their fans obsess about them over Twitter means nothing in the real world. If you consider that an achievement of any kind, I would strongly suggest you start stepping out into reality a bit more often.
- Direct messages. I get a lot of spam in my direct messages. One thing which annoys me. I also get a lot of auto messages. Not always a bad thing, but so many of them say ‘Thanks for following, let’s also connect on Facebook. [link to FB fan page here]“.
Excuse me, why does us “connecting” mean me following you and then me liking your FB page with no reciprocity? I tend to “disconnect” with people who send me that kind of auto DM. There is no nurturing the relationship in any way there.
So those are the main things I dislike about Twitter. Don’t get me wrong, I do like Twitter. In fact some times I do love it, but those things bug me.
